Some years ago, I released an album entitled, 'Making Music to Your name,' which primarily includes Psalms. The first track on the album is Psalm 137(138) and I titled it, 'You answered me.' Below are the words, and by clicking on the highlighted song title, you'll be directed to the album where you can listen to the entire track. This particular Psalm is featured in today's liturgy.
Half way through the Psalm you will notice an italicized section which I added to the composition because the Psalm is one of thanksgiving, praise and answer to prayer.
The verse contains several intercessory prayers that I was particularly concerned about similar to those we use during Mass, asking the Lord to keep in mind those concerns.
Amid our personal challenges, the fragmented state of family life, and both national and international tensions, our intercessory prayer is important and of value. The Psalmist reminds us that God is faithful and listens to our pleas.
In what ways does this Psalm influence your life or the life of someone you know? In what ways have your prayers been answered?
Psalm 137(138) (abridged)
I thank you Lord with all my heart
You have heard the words of my mouth
Before the angels I will bless you
And in your temple, I’ll adore
You stretch your hand out to save
Your hand will do all things for me
Your love, O Lord, is eternal
On the day I called you answered me.
You answered me
On the day I called to You for help
For your faithfulness and love
I thank you Lord
You answered me
You answered me
On the day I called to You for help
You give strength to my soul
And I thank you Lord
You answered me
For the witness of the church
And for the leaders of the world
For the children and the poor ones
For all the suffering they endure
For all the families near and far
For their common good we plead
And for the planet we depend on
We lift our voices in our need
You stretch out your hands to save
Your hand will do all things for me
Your love O Lord is eternal
On the day I called you answered me
You answered me
On the day I called to You for help
For your faithfulness and love
I thank you Lord
You answered me.
You answered me
On the day I called to You for help
You give strength to my soul
And I thank you Lord
You answered me
For future postings, I am curious to know if many of you were able to access the song link I provided last week from Spotify. The song I shared was, 'Help me to believe.' I am not sure if you have to be a member of Spotify or not. If some of you could let me know, I would appreciate it.
Thank you.
Blessings on your week
