'Well spoken, Master.'

There is a wonderful and genuine interplay between Jesus and the scribe in today's Gospel.

On other occasions, the scribes try to trick Jesus in saying things that they can use against him. Jesus knows this man is genuine in his search for truth and understanding and willingly answers his question about the first of all the commandments. The first, Jesus says, is the love of God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and the second, to love one's neighbour as oneself. The scribe is heartened by what Jesus says and is clearly in tune with him and responds, 'Well spoken, Master.'

We too have questions for Jesus in our genuine search for him and his will for us. His response and words of love come to us in all kinds of ways, through the Scriptures, other people, creation, experiences, and in the silence of prayer. Listen for his response throughout the week. With grateful hearts, heartened and in tune with his Spirit, are we able to respond to him as the scribe does, 'Well spoken, Master,' and live according to that response.

You may like to listen to, 'God made us for love', from 'Chants for Silence.'

Blessings on your week.
