Last Tuesday, I joined a number of musicians in leading the music for the Dedication Mass at
Owairaka, here in Auckland, for many of the Catholic Schools in the Auckland Diocese. They used a number of my compositions including 'Centred in God' which I am sharing with you this week. It is the title track on my latest album on Spotify.
The song was inspired by Catherine McCauley the founder of the Mercy's. She said in her retreat notes that "Our hearts can always be in the same place centred in God." It struck a chord with me.
We may be a long distance from people we know and love but in God we are together in the same place. It's as if Christ is sitting us down, as he does in the Gospel today, and we are around him with his eyes fixed on us and our eyes fixed on him as he teaches us the Beatitudes. Although we are unique with our different ways and personalities, we are present to each other and with him sharing common ground. And in sharing that common ground we are in solidarity with the poor, the hungry and those who weep because Christ carries them in his heart.
Centred in God
Our hearts will always be
In the same place
Our hearts will always be
In the same place
Centred in God
Centred in God
Our hearts as one centred in God
Tōku ngākau me tōu ngākau
Tōku ngākau me tōu ngākau
wāhi kotahi
wāhi kotahi
me te Atua i te pūtahi
In sorrow and joy
Wherever life leads us
In resting and toil
God’s presence unites us
Our hearts will always be
In the same place
Our hearts will always be
In the same place
Centred in God
Centred in God
Our hearts as one centred in God
Our hearts as one centred in God
