Today we celebrate the solemnity of Christ the King.
Jesus before Pilate in our Gospel for today says, 'Yes, I am a king. I was born for this, I came into the world for this: to bear witness to the truth; and all who are on the side of truth listen to my voice.'
We do not commit our lives to a king who is dominant and powerful in a worldly sense but to a king who washed the feet of his disciples. He emptied himself and did not cling or grasp onto his equality with God but took on the form of a servant, becoming as we are and humbled himself to the point of death, even death on a cross...Philippians 2
He is worthy of our devotion, our obedience and our reverence.
You may like to listen to the song 'Bow down before you' track 8 from 'Holy Land.' The lyrics are below.
We reverence O Lord your presence this hour
We reverence your mystery, your glory and power
And from your silence you reverence us too
For you came to serve not to be served
Just as you bowed and knelt wrapped in a towel and washed the feet of those with you
Help us bow down before you
bow down before you
bow down before you
In your service O Lord (repeat)
We reverence O Lord your presence this hour
We reverence your mystery, your glory and power
And from your silence you reverence us too
For you came with love beyond measure
Just as the woman with ointment and tears anointed your feet with such loving
Help us bow down before you
bow down before you
bow down before you
With devotion, O Lord (repeat)
We reverence O Lord your presence this hour
We reverence your mystery, your glory and power
And from your silence you reverence us too
For you came with life in its fullness
Just as the potter bends over the wheel you take delight in your people
Help us bow down before you
bow down before you
bow down before you
and your people, O Lord (repeat)

I hope to continue in the New Year. May you be enriched and encouraged in your faith and lives as you take time with your family, friends and community over these weeks. Lets continue to hold each other in prayer.
