Rakiura/Stewart Island

28 January 2005

I am in Dunedin on my return to Wellington. I have just spent a wonderful few days on Stewart Island (Rakiura). This has been my first visit and I am hoping my experience will inspire a few new songs. What a place!!! The bush, birdlife and scenery is spectacular. One of the highlights was a boat trip down to the South of the island to Port Pegasus- unusual granite formations down there named Gog and Magog. It was as if we were the first people to discover the place because it is so pristine. We took a short dingey trip up a branch of the harbour to what they call the enchanted forest and spent a short time with the most beautiful sea-lion asleep in the bush. I am back in Wellington on the 30th of January and will be in Auckland later in February completing a number of new recordings. Wishing you all a positive start to the New Year.
