Greetings from Thailand

22 February 2010

For the last few days I have been with my confrere Fr John Larsen SM, the Marist community and volunteers in Ranong, Southern Thailand. They run a mission for Burmese migrant workers. A real eye opener for me for I haven't seen such poverty  before. There are real signs of hope here with the education centre they run for the children and other projects supporting families with Aids. I  had the opportunity of taking a boat with John and staying the night in Kawthoung in Myannmar itself. The faith of the people in a predominantly Buddhist country was an inspiration during Sunday Mass. I will be very sad to leave Thailand on Thursday and all the new friends I have made.
