11 March 2004

I have written a new song in response to all the recent debate on race relations and the Treaty of Waitangi. I would like to share the words with you.

Aotearoa, New Zealand
Our hearts belong to you
Dear Mother Earth, bring us to birth
As a brand new generation

Who search for understanding
And face what must be faced
With open doors on these island shores
We will build strong communication

To understand the present
We need to know the past
What's fair is fair, and we're still not there
Let us take the steps we need together

Aotearoa, New Zealand....

We have the task before us
Is there the will and way?
To work and strive and to keep alive
What could be with bold determination

Aotearoa, New Zealand....

Aotearoa, New Zealand
Our hearts belong to you.
