22 September 2002

It is farewell to San Francisco, city by the bay, in the morning. For the last few days I have been practising with Grade 6 children in the local Catholic school for the Sunday Mass we celebrated this morning. I taught them 'We Say Thanks'. American children seem to be so confident and enthusiastic. I enjoyed myself. We had our own little choir and their parents were delighted.

I stayed with Marists in Berkerly the other night. Bill and Tom were great hosts. Thanks for the roast, Tom! Clive Burns SM from England joined us for the meal and the next day Bill took us touring north of the harbour. I had a great workout descending and ascending well over 300 steps down to an old light house. Thank God the fog lifted. We travelled several hours to get there.

A highlight of my stay with the Berkeley crew was a visit to the Sabbatical Programme at Berkeley University that Clive was attending. Mary Catherwood RSM is on the course. It was a surprise for her to see me walk through the door. In the late 80's I worked with Mary at Roncalli College in Timaru. We had a great catch up and of course I had to sing a few songs from NZ for the gathered participants. I am slowly building my fan club . See ya all.
